FAQ: What Does the Bible Say to Do When You Feel Lost?

Feeling lost is something you may experience after turning fifty. Children grow up, retirement looms, routines change, and roles that once defined your life are now slowly changing or fading away.

Health struggles may suddenly surface. Caregiving responsibilities, grief, and loneliness may also become unwelcome burdens for you to bear.

As a result, these new circumstances may leave you feeling uncertain, questioning who you are, and your purpose in life.

Can you relate to any of these? If so, you’re not alone.

The good news is that the Bible reminds us that even in uncertain times, God never forgets us. He is always with us and watching out for us. Helping us. Giving us strength to carry on.

Feeling Lost Does Not Mean You Are Forgotten

One of my favorite scriptures is in the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah writes:

“Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:10 (WEBUS)

This verse reminds me not to be afraid. God is telling me to relax, take a breath, and know that He is going to help me and give me the strength to get through whatever the day demands of me.

And this very promise is true for you too.

Through the financial uncertainty of retirement, the pain of seeing a loved one suffering, marital struggles, health scares or whatever challenges you’re facing God is there for you, and you are not alone.

Remember the Lord’s promise in Matthew 28:20:

“I Am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

So take heart, with the Lord, you’ve got this.

When God is Bringing You Into a New Season

It is written:

“Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19 (WEBUS)

If you’re quietly wondering what on earth you’re going to do next in your life, remember God has a plan. Yes, even after 50 He has a plan for your life.

It may not be dramatic, but on the other hand, it could be. In fact, maybe your life has taken on a whole new set of responsibilities.

But, regardless of your circumstances, this new season of life is a time to rediscover yourself, create new routines, and maybe even allow yourself the gift to simply let go.

And through all the changes, and that emptiness of feeling lost, remember God is with you. He has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11), and He has not forgotten you (Isaiah 49:15 +16).

How to Find Peace of Mind and Happiness

In today’s world, inner peace can feel fleeting at best. With so much chaos and uncertainty, it’s easy to get swept away in fear and anxiety.

The best approach to overcome these negative emotions is to take a moment, inhale deeply, and still your mind.

You don’t need all the answers today. Focus on the moment. Repeat a positive affirmation such as ‘everything is going to be ok’ or ‘I’ve got this’.

Then offer thanks for one of the many blessings in your life. Out loud.

Simple practices like gratitude, quiet reflection, and reading scripture can calm a troubled heart.

And remember. You are never alone.

As it is written in Psalm 23:4, you do not need to be afraid for the Lord is close beside you.
