You look around, and your house is so quiet.
Your son’s soccer schedule is no longer posted. Your monthly work calendar is gone. Your daughter’s coloring book pictures are safe in your keepsake book. And your husband’s tie is no longer slung across the back of the kitchen chair.
Nothing is the same as it used to be. There are so many changes.
Your life no longer looks or feels the way it used to.
And in the bottom of your gut, there’s that nagging fear.
Does God still have a purpose for me?
The answer is yes. Absolutely yes.
God’s Purpose Does Not Retire
Our culture worships youth. (As if you didn’t already know this.)
But remember, God does not operate according to the world’s standards.
He does not set His children aside as they grow older, nor does He measure your value by your productivity.
Isaiah 46:4 (WEBUS) makes this plain:
“Even to old age I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry and will deliver.”
That is not a verse about simply surviving old age. That is a promise of an active, ongoing partnership.
God is still carrying you as he has all of these years. He’s still working on you and still working through you.
Your Story Has Shaped You for This
By this season of life, you have lived through a lot. You’ve gained wisdom and understanding. You’ve weathered deep disappointments, sorrow, and loss.
It wasn’t easy, and your faith is hard-won. However, looking back, you realize God has always been there with you. He’s carried you through the pain and wiped away the tears. None of your life experiences is wasted.
Know in your heart, God can still use you.
Maybe it’s a simple phone call. It could be a handwritten note. Perhaps you’ve left a meal on someone’s porch who very much needs a friend. Or said a prayer offered in the quiet.
So don’t underestimate the value and good you can still share with the world.
He May Be Opening a New Door
Sometimes God closes one chapter specifically to make room for the next one. The empty nest, the career shift, the slower pace — these are not signs that your story is winding down. They may be exactly the space God is waiting to fill.
Jeremiah 29:11 is a verse you have probably heard many times. Here it is again:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.”
The Lord is not finished with you. He still has a plan for your life.
Spend time in prayer. Open your heart to hear His voice. Trust Him one day at a time. And watch for the door He is preparing to open for you.
Your story is not over. It may be just getting started.
